at some point in time my boss decided he would drum up business by providing a list of all of the items available at our store for $1. we provide medications to the residents of several treatment centers/residential care homes/shelters and he happily sent them this list. so every now and again someone will ask for $1 band-aids or cough syrup or something to be delivered with their meds. yesterday a woman at one of the residential care places called up and asked "can i order something from the dollar menu?" sure thing ma'am. would you like a jr. frosty or fries with that as well?
as promised mrs. med e. cation is now in the capable hands of another pharmacy. they called up for the transfer of her medications over to their store and when asked her reasons for leaving us they stated "she says you charge her co pays when she shouldn't have any". ha! it's hilarious and sad that she honestly believes that it is our fault that this increase in price has occurred. the pharmacist said to the other store as he got off the phone "good luck". in the land of pharmacies it's never ever a good thing when one pharmacy transfers meds over to you while wishing you good luck.
on the upside i had a customer call for information about transferring to us and he came in today to do so. he thanked all of us for helping him and then asked to speak to me. he told me that i was very helpful and friendly on the phone and he was very thankful. this makes me smile. sometimes i realize the good things about my job. i like my job honestly i do. i thought about it today during a busy rush of customers. we knew and greeted each customer that came into the store by name. at least 10 people in a row came in and all of my coworkers knew who they were and carried on conversations with them. i'll bet it would be a lot harder to do this at a big chain store.
well, now i'm feeling inspired to tell you about some customers who i really DO enjoy. this older guy comes in about two or three times a week. he takes a bunch of meds and seems to constantly be out of something. i personally think it's just that he loves having something to do. he loves going to the pharmacy. he's older and always wears an old man hat....you know the kind golfers wear?...and suspenders. although lately he's been sporting this awesome yellow trucker hat with airbrushed writing on the front of it. it might say "pappy" or something to that affect. i can't remember at this moment in time. (and now that i mention it i also couldn't think of the word "airbrushed" either. i had to go into the kitchen and describe it to alexis in order to remember the word). i asked him about it and he said his grandkids had it made for him.
*this paragraph brought to you by alexis, who doesn't like to read my blog if the story appears to be too long.* so this customer with his trucker hat was picking up his sister-in-laws medications one day and he asked me to stamp his card. i was like what?! stealing your sister-in-laws stamps? does she know about this? he just started chuckling. and so i said oh i see this is the shipping and handling fee for delivering it to her. he just kept laughing and saying shipping and handling fee! you got that right! as he left the store.
i also like to joke with this guy that he's earning frequent flyer miles whenever he comes in. he loves it. he's pretty hilarious himself. one day he was like "i need to fill my.................what was it? shoot. uh........hmmm. oh! my namenda! well i guess i really DO need to fill it. shoot i'm forgettin' everything." if you don't get this pharmaceutical joke i'll spell it out for you: namenda is most commonly used to treat signs of Alzheimer's.

it's like she read my mind! except for #7 which i resent. but honestly people you've no idea how much i too hate your insurance provider! i am sooooo very tempted to print this out and staple it to all of my customer's bags. please note that i totally had the title to this blog already thought of before i read #2.
