frances is right, it IS august already and it's been far too long. everytime i sit down to catch up i feel like i've got two months worth of stories and i don't know where to begin. and i don't know where so here are some things that i've been up to/thinking about:
1. the olympics have been rocking my socks off. though perhaps not quite as much as they 've been rocking alexis's socks off. she's almost literally set up camp in the living room during her few weeks off between summer school and the start of the new school year. hahaha tonight while deciding if she should go to a movie or not she said, "darn it the volleyball finals are on tonight. i wanted to watch them. well they are live at 11pm so that means if i get up at 4am i can see them rebroadcast." that my friends is some real dedication. while not quite so intense i have spent many an evening in the living room working on jewelry making and watching the olympics. i can't remember paying this much attention or being this excited about them since they were in atlanta.
2. i inherited a bunch of glass beads and supplies from emily and i've gone crazy. i bought a crapload more beads at joanne fabric while they were 40% off a few weeks ago and i've been making things night and day. i'll post pictures at some point. i won't promise when because, well, i'm a slacker and you're lucky i'm even posting this. i got some books out from the library and learned how to do cool things involving links of wire and making necklaces/bracelets. i'm pumped about it and it makes me want to set up an etsy shop. i don't know if i'd actually make a profit doing that but it almost doesn't matter. i enjoy creating things. we'll see what happens.
3. pharmacy fabuloso story! i'll bet you've missed these. my coworker favors these auxillary labels at work that say "this is your last refill. please contact your physician for a new prescription". she often places them over top of the prescription number on the bottle so that the patient is forced to pay attention. this does not always work. case in point: the phone rings and i answer. the guy on the other end says "hang on a second i'm trying to find my prescription number for a refill but there's this sticker in the way". so i say to him "is the sticker orange?". why yes he says. so i reply "did you read it?". of course not he informs me. "well sir i believe that sticker says that you are out of refills and need to contact your dr.". silence. stunned silence. "hmm, well what should i do?? should...i....call my dr?" that would be great sir, i'll go ahead and contact him also. he thanked me and hung up. and i burst out laughing. sometimes you cannot win.
simillarly you cannot win when a patient comes in and is angry because a. her meds were not billed to her auto accident claim (but she has failed to inform us of this claim) b. we didn't contact her new dr. (and she has failed to inform us that she changed dr's) and c. that the prescription we have on file for her is for 1 table twice a day (and she has been taking her medication 2 tablets in the morning and 3 tablets at night and is therefore out of medication). DUH. that is all.
4. jared came to visit last weekend! he flew in to pittsburgh and then we drove with lisa and josh up to NY for the weekend. we got to see all of my family members, which was awesome. the whole fam went to the county fair on saturday and ate our way through the desserts of the fair: pecan turtles, kettle corn, taffy, fried dough, birch beer, 4-H cookies. it was awesome. some of us rode the bobsleds and the tilt-a-whirl. i took a lot of picture (and jared did too) on his camera. i'll have to see if i can get some of them b/c they were enjoyable. the fam also had a campfire/cookout late saturday night. mmmm mountain pies and s'mores. sunday jared and i went to the beach instead of church. (such heathens i know) but he did bring his mandolin and we sang some hymns which was awesome. after that we went to keith and melie's for another cookout. they have a brand new beagle named peter that is probably the cutest dog ever. they also have two kittens but i didn't get to see them much b/c they were curled up on the couch fast asleep the whole time.
