the many adventures of melissa and alexis

this post appears to you courtesy of jess who has requested that i update my blog sometime before the end of february. sorry kids, i've been a little lax with the blogging lately.

i was talking yesterday about how sometimes i get so frustrated by my lack of transportation. sure i can walk to nearly everything i need. and there's always the bus. and of course i have awesome roommates who very kindly arrange their trips to the store and far off places too include me. don't get me wrong, i am VERY grateful for that, but sometimes i just want independance. i want to go where i want to go when i want to be there. i want no agenda, no rushing around. i want to sing and drive and do my own thing. and awesomely, i feel like i did that today, though i was not at the wheel and i wasn't by myself. it was refreshing and i am very grateful.

anyway today was SATURDAY and it was GLORIOUS. i didn't have to work at all! i turned off my phone last night for the first time in i can't remember how long. see i use my phone as my alarm clock so i have to leave it turned on. and since it's on i answer it every time it rings, whether it's 3am or 7am. it wakes me up and i may as well answer. so anyway i wanted NO distress calls from the bat phone this morning regarding bulletins or any other matters so i turned off my phone, in fact i left it off for most of the day, how refreshing.

sadly i didn't sleep in very late, my body has this awesome habit of waking up nice and early and being all like "GOOD MORNING" and i'm like darn it sleep in please. but anyway, i woke up and was hanging around the house talking to alexis when we decided that we needed to go to Pamela's for some pancakes. Pamela's has perhaps the best pancakes i've ever eaten. and i've eaten some darn good pancakes. so we got ready and went to eat. i had banana chocolate chip hotcakes and they were delicioso.

i totally meant to take a picture BEFORE i ate my food. i forgot. so here's the sad remains of breakfast on alexis's plate.

after breakfast (which was more like brunch at this point) we headed off to the main library. i like the little library near us, but i love the main library. i stayed with alexis today because i knew that she goes to different parts of the library than i usually do. for some reason the entire second floor has remained a mystery to me. i have not ventured there previously. all it takes to get there is to walk up the main staircase but habits or fears of getting lost somewhere in the depths of the library have kept me from venturing forth. i always go to the new fiction section, then the menazzine. so today we went to the DVD's/VIDEOS/MUSIC section and i had to resist singing "a whole new world" while gazing in wonder at this new library environment.

the second floor of the library is pretty cool.

these books are pretty cool too. i sat near them and read for a bit while waiting for alexis. haha to the scandolous title of the yellow book in the center. whoops.

then it was off to target. i love target. i had no purpose in going there today and those are the best and possibly the most dangerous sorts of target adventures. i found gloves....two pairs for $.37! wowza. AND it appears that God has not only heard my prayers but answered them: Special Edition Starburst Jellybeans that are ALL RED FLAVORS! AND they were on sale. i was elated. also, i managed to get out of there without spending more than i should.

nice sunglasses lex.

then it was off to the mall to make a payment on my JCPenney card. that trip was far less entertaining or fruitful. the girl at the crocs stand tried to sell me some "Croc Butter" to keep my crocs looking new. i looked at her and stated that taking them in the shower has the same effects. she tried to tell me that they would actually begin to dry rot if i did this too often. i think that's whooey. i did not buy any croc butter. and i somehow resisted THESE disgustingly cute items. i don't know why i like them. they are absurd. and yet i want one. haha.

we came back home many hours later and proceeded to eat dinner and read. it was refreshing to turn off the tv and resist the charm of the internet. i lose a lot of hours wasting time on both. i miss reading. i used to read a lot on the bus going to work. now that i walk i don't get nearly as much reading in. it's pretty challenging to walk and read. i've tried it. i'm accident prone, no need to add a book into the mix. but anyway alexis and i read until 7ish when we went to the movies. we saw Vantage Point. i liked it. i was literally shaking from one part of it and my stomach was flipping around in knots during some stressful scenes. overall i thought it was good. it had a few twists i didn't see coming at all. OH and harrison ford is totally in that movie and i didn't even realize it was him! i'm a little sad about this because i used to think he was really hot for an old guy. now i just think he's an old guy.

oh AND we smuggled starbucks into the theatre (and you know how much i do love me some starbucks). i don't think the guy who made my drink knew ANYTHING about peppermint mocha frappiccinos or how to make them, but it was still a decent starbucks experience. and so now i'm home and i have just eaten some popcorn and read some more of my book.

"Dark Chocolate Blackout Cake"---this was at Starbucks. I didn't have any but I did find the name amusing. Must be some good cake....what with it's blackout inducing and such.

(if you're keeping track while reading this post of how much junk food i had today just pretend that you don't actually know how much i've consumed. it's saturday, cut me some slack). and now folks i will read until i fall asleep or receive a phone call. and it will be a fabulous end to a very refreshing day.

bottom 10, #3.

i thought you would eat it when there was a blackout... er because it's the first thing you want to save out of your fridge, or because you'd like it so much you'd want to eat it with the lights out, or you'd want to feel better about not having any lights and this cheesecake would do the trick.

none of that was junk food by my standards

if pancakes covered in chocolate chips and whipped cream, starburst jelly beans, a frappiccino, and popcorn are not junk food then wow. you have good standards.
