something tells me i should get out of the store as quickly as possible. my second to last week of work has been crazy! thursday night there was a microburst in the area where i work. it was raining so hard that i couldn't see the stores on the other side of the shopping plaza. the wind kept blowing the front doors open and then the power went out. my manager and i had to lock the doors and work by flashlight. we couldn't let any customers in (not that there were any in the plaza anyhow) because our comptuers were obviously down with no power. our district manager told us to stay at the store until closing time. every single store in the plaza closed early. by the time we left not a single car was in the parking lot besides kelli's. the main road was flooded in some parts and there were fire trucks blocking off every single side street because of downed trees. the winds were so strong that some of the route/street/stop signs were blown right over. oh and our backroom got flooded because the water came gushing in under the back door. we had to stop and mop that up and rescue some boxes of merchandise before we could leave. and to top it off my boss left her sunroof open so the entire truck was soaking wet.
alright so that was thursday. and now for friday. my other manager was there tonight and her husband called to let us know that a bank in the shopping plaza got held up and the robber was on the loose in the plaza. we immediately locked our front doors and called the district manager. again she was like well don't lock the doors if no one else is. however after looking out the back door and seeing A SWAT TEAM surrounding the movie theatre we went ahead and kept the door locked for a bit. there were helicopters swarming around and cop cars everywhere. they were in full swat gear as well. we briefly opened up the back door and asked what was going on and one of them told us to get inside and lock the doors. so apparently some guy held up the bank and then walked over to the movies. he then asked what was playing and purchased a ticket with a $100 bill to see harry potter. he went inside and changed clothes, ditched his bank robbing clothes, and walked out of the theatre probably before the police were ever on scene. meanwhile the people in the shopping plaza have no idea what is going on and neither do the people in the theatre who were met by the swat team as each film finished up. they let them all watch their movies and THEN did a sweep of each theatre! oh i do love our cops, sometimes i question their abilities. anyhow we did reopen the store but it was a pretty crazy evening. i was a bit on edge for the rest of the evening. i'm afraid to find out what will happen tomorrow at work.
i am offically starting training at the new job next monday. i asked my new boss if he will consider letting me train next week (a week sooner than i originally told him) and then let me go to NH as planned the following week. he didn't sound too keen on the idea. i told him that my job comes first and i would in no way want to jeporadize my position with the company. he hemmed and hawed and settled with "i'll think about it". i seriously wouldn't be too too heart broken if he says no, because i am thankful to have this job. however i have never been to new england and hiking sounds fantastical right now, as does a vacation. so lets keep our fingers crossed shall we?
