yesterday alexis and i went to princess mae's 4th birthday party. it was a riot. mae was busily opening up her birthday gifts and one of her very enthusiastic friends was providing commentary. mae opens up a pair of butterfly wings that happen to be from the Bratz doll company (but in reality were just a pair of wings with no bratz logo or anything on them) and her friend says loudly "i'm thankful that this was not my birthday gift because my mom hates bratz!" luckily the princesses' mother had purchased the gift and not another one of the guests, and she wasn't overly offended by the comment. they had a dragon egg hunt and the princesses' father was in charge of explaining the rules of the game. now everyone gets to find 10 eggs. how many of you have 10 fingers? a three year old party guest says "i have three!!!!" while demonstrating helpfully. heh. kids are great. mae had a giant two-tiered castle cake that was amazing and she was dressed as disney princess briar rose. it was fabulous. i hung out with wesley who tried to get me to give him cake and or balloons throughout the party without actually being able to say the words for either. boy that kid is persuasive.
i guess this whole post is going to be cute kid stories. i babysat for a family with three boys last night. the baby was sleeping but the two older boys (11 and 7 years old...i think) were still up when i got there. we were playing a game when their mom came downstairs all dressed up. the older boy says "ooooooh mom!" and the younger one goes "wow! you look beautiful!" they ran over to her and were telling her she looked really pretty. i thought it was the sweetest thing ever. then their dad comes downstairs wearing a tux and they were wowing how great both of them looked. it was kind of cold and their mom asked her husband to get her green coat from upstairs and the boys were like nooooooooo not the green coat! it was a coat her mother had given her awhile ago. it was kind of mint green and it was from the 80's. it sort of had a good retro vibe going for it. i told her this and she said maybe people will think i'm hip. her husband goes "honey you're the hippest!" and gave her a big kiss. so stinkin' adorable. the whole family is cute. ok so i guess that was a cute kid story that morphed into a cute family story also.
man daylight savings time really messed me up. i fell asleep on their couch. usually i have to make a conscious decision to let myself fall asleep. not this time. i fell asleep and i woke up extremely disoriented when they came home. i had to stand for several minutes to wake myself up enough to drive myself home. so then i took a nap this afternoon and slept on the love seat that is approximately half my height. i ended up with an unsatisfying nap and an elbow cramp.
