oddities.

i love that my family is the type of family that sets up a practical joke and then just lies in wait.....for weeks. i'll let you in on the joke after it is revealed. i'm not sure which family members are reading this yet and i wouldn't want to spoil anything.

i love that my friends are the type of people when asked on new year's eve: "champange or sparkling white grape juice?" answer: "coke"

i love that my roommates and i are the type of people that simply crack open the coke can and pour it into the champagne glass without a second thought.

i love that kristi and i have such drastically different movie choice. every one of her favorite movies is a movie i hate with a mad burning passion. every one of my favorites she hates. the one point we can agree on is donnie darko. plus we've got shared musical interests to tie it all together.

i love that emily and i are the worst shopping buddies ever. her tastes and mine are nothing short of complete opposites. she holds up a dress and i just say mmmmm and make a face. she tries it on and likes it anyway.

i love that despite differences we all get along. i love that these friends and family members make up the group of people that i love most.

unrelated wesley story:
wes turned one in november and is now to the point where he says only a few words and signs a few things but cannot communicate verbally what he wants to without just yelling "aaaaah" at everything. so i went to pizza hut with emily, the kids, and the evil roommates yesterday. wes was sitting on my lap and he kept screaming "aaaah" at his cup of water. so i'd hold it over to him and he'd start to drink and then decide that he wanted to hold the cup himself. i could only see that turning to disaster despite the lid, so i'd pull it away from him and say no. finally he kept yelling and i decided alright we'll give it a shot. and sure enough he spilled a little bit on his pants and my skirt. i put him down on the floor next to me and he touched his wet pants and then held out his hand to me as if to say "how come my pants are wet?/what are you going to do about it?" i said, "yea wes i know. your pants are wet. well so is my skirt. look. it's because you spilled your water on us." he stopped and looked at my skirt, his pants, and me and seemed to register what i was saying. and with a wave of his hand he dismissed the topic. it was great. the best part was the older woman eating pizza alone and reading witnessed the entire exchange and was laughing out loud at us.
